This is just a freakishly small sampling of all my photos! I went a bit shutter crazy and ended up with over 1000! But hey - I may never go to these places again (which would be a shame!), so might as well document all my memories! I had a wonderful time (despite the over 100 degree weather everyday and the unbearable humidity). Asia is a different world!!! I have some video clips in here, as well. Hopefully they work for you to see! Despite numerous stories, I'll keep it simple and just have a big picture post - that's what you all want to see anyways :P
Let us begin in Thailand!
Bangkok- Posing with a picture of the king (yea, I'm kinda badass like that)
Giant Buddha - Bangkok
Tuk tuk (open air cabs) - Bangkok
I thought my Fiat was small to tote groceries in.
Bangkok- Royal Palace. Aka - lots of gold leaf
Just hanging out with the Demon King. Bangkok- Royal Palace
Beautiful Asian architecture - Royal Palace
Why yes, I did meet the man of my dreams on this trip! Wedding invitations to follow...
Would you guess I'm not in a PF Changs? Royal Palace- Bangkok
Khaosan Road - Bangkok
No matter where you are in the world, you're never too far from a McD's
I went to a super sketchy Muay Thai fight! Complete with shady warehouse and 12 year olds beating each other up. Chang Mai, Thailand
I took a thai cooking class! I branched out from my normal mac and cheese! Be proud. Chang Mai, Thailand.
I did this!! Nom nom nom
I also ate a bunch of seemingly non-edible things... Hopefully you can watch this video!
And the adult tigers! This is what fear looks like when the people tell you to go ahead and scratch the tigers belly really hard. I don't think tiger mauling is covered by my travel insurance...
No big deal.
Getting my Buddha on! Chang Mai, Thailand
These were the awful steps I had to climb in order to get my Buddha on.... Excercise on vacation? Say what?
Little monks
I took ever method of transportation imaginable on this trip! Boat, plane, cab, bus... here I am on the overnight train! (No armpit murderer though, mom)
Very bizarre, yet beautiful white temple. Chang Rai, Thailand
It was a modern design thing. These hands are supposed to represent hell. ( I think...)
The guy who designed the white temple isn't full of himself at all. It's totally normal to put cardboard cutouts of yourself around.
I got to visit some of the Hill tribe people of Thailand. I'm the one with the short neck in this photo.
Getting my swing on in the hill tribe village
Next up: Laos! Aka - my first communist country
Boat cruisin' down the Mekong River
Sunset over the Mekong
I'm on a boat!
We stopped at these Buddha caves filled with hundreds of statues! I lit a candle and made a wish (you get to make a LOT of wished in Buddhism)
Here's a tiny hair salon in the one street town of Pakbeng, Laos
Pakbeng, Laos
Getting my hydration on!
Shopping!
Freakishly adorable lemur!
Against my better judgment, I drank snake whiskey!
Bottoms up! (another girl has an awesome shot of my after face. Once she sends it to me, I'll share!)
Hungry? Why wait!
Getting up early to pay arms to the monks (aka, give them rice to eat themselves and also to distribute to the poor)
I couldn't be a monk. Orange just wouldn't work with my hair color.
Taking time to relax along the Mekong river with the ONLY beer that Laos produces. Variety is the spice of life???
I went bowling! I swear the lanes were uneven. And the place was so classy, we didn't even need shoes.
Kuang Si Waterfalls - Luang Prabang, Laos
I rode an elephant! Yea, I'm on it's head steering (or at least trying to. The elephant is gonna go where the elephant wants to go)
So gas effective!
Me and my elephant, Sexy Girl... An unfortunate name, really.
Random cave! Only because I don't remember it's name...
Blue Lagoon. Vang Vieng, Laos
I went rockclimbing!!! I didn't do half bad, either
Vientiane, Laos - the capitol and their version of the Arc de Triomphe
Shall we go to Cambodia?
No better way to say hello to a new country than indulging in a delicacy. Tarantula!
Tasty tasty
Or not....it was dead and somehow cooked...but still hairy.
Visit the meat section of your local deli.
Golden Stupa! Phnom Penh.
Visiting the dirty gross Tonle Sap lake.
Fishing for crocs!
Or are they alligators? Not sure. Either way, they are strong!
Clothes and bone were still surfacing every rainy season since this tragedy only just occurred in the late '70s
Skulls from unknown victims.
Mass grave
Visitors have been putting bracelets on this tree (where children were murdered) as a remembrance.
Prison cells at S21 - Phnom Penh
Victims photos
Lets get more uplifting! Night markets in Siem Reap!
I wonder where a gal can get a drink in these parts?
After so much walking, I decided to get the creepy little fish to eat my feet! (I prefer not to think how unsanitary this is)
See! I had needed it! There is no such thing as clean feet in Asia (those ain't no tan lines. All dirt!)
Visiting Bayon Temple (the temple of the faces!)
Keeping it classy up in here!
Me and Olmec. All that's missing is the shrine of the silver monkey...
This temple is Ta Prohm - the temple used in the Tomb Raider movie
Not even templed out yet!
Trees have kinda took over. I think I liked these ancient temples better than the new shiny ones.
It's like 6 am and I'm already sweating and shiny
I color coordinated my outfit to match the temple apparently.
I actually met another gal from WI while visiting Angkor Wat! Go figure. Cue 'It's a Small World' music...
Extra photos from new friends are cropping up on facebook daily - so you can see more there, too! This trip was phenomenal and I can't wait to discover where I'm going next! Wanna come? Just say the word and I will go :P
I saw this quote on my friends page and loved it: The whole world is a book and those who don't travel only read one page.
